Nancy has been conducting workshops for young girls in the Tampa Bay area since 2004. Nancy started her work helping girls develop stronger self-esteem and confidence with The Ophelia Project as a volunteer and mentor on their Young Women's Leadership Board and as a Certified Facilitator for a series of workshops called Girls Circle. When The Ophelia Project closed their Tampa office in 2010, Nancy decided to start Girls With Confidence shortly after. She saw there was a huge need for programs that help young girls develop a love for themselves at an early age and for teen girls to manage through the challenging times of dealing with peer pressure, fitting in and making good decisions.
"I grew up in an affluent suburb of Detroit Michigan. After graduating from High School, I attended Western Michigan University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and majored in Retail Management/Fashion Merchandising. On the outside, it always appeared as though I was a strong, determined, confident young woman but inside I struggled with extremely low self-esteem. I always remember doubting myself and wanting to be thinner and prettier. I've struggled with food issues most of my life. Until I had my son and was in my mid 30's did I finally start to feel more self-confident. I always knew that I would work with young girls on improving their self-esteem and helping them believe in themselves. Girls With Confidence is a dream come true and I am so excited to see it's success and growth over the past few years."
We are so happy to have Emily volunteer with Girls With Confidence. Emily grew up in the Lithia area, attending Newsome High School. Emily attended The University of Florida and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences with an area of specialization in social psychology. Emily conducted a variety of volunteer and internship opportunities during her undergraduate career. During her last full academic year at UF, Emily established and facilitated multiple educational outreach groups for kids and teens weekly through Peaceful Paths, a local domestic violence shelter in Gainesville, as a Violence Prevention Intern. Emily has also been involved as a volunteer with organizations such as the Child Advocacy Center, Dance Marathon at UF, Camp Boggy Creek, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of Girls with Confidence, and be in a position to use my personal skills and education to give back. I always knew I would work with the youth of our communities, and I hope to continue to support, educate, and uplift each and every child, while developing meaningful connections.”
Emily began her work with us in the Fall 2016 and the girls absolutely LOVE her. In addition to her education and experience, she has a kind heart and wonderful ability to connect with the girls. Emily will help us in a volunteer capacity at marketing events and workshops when your her schedule permits it.
Emily lives in South Tampa and is looking forward to being a part of Girls with Confidence and making a positive impact with these girls.

Katherine is currently a senior attending Newsome High School in Lithia, FL and has recently announced her acceptance to attend Auburn University. She is beyond excited to start her college career and plans to study and major in Apparel Merchandising.
We are blessed to have Katherine help us with our Social Media campaigns over the next few years. She is a great role model for our girls and will do a great job in her new role. This past year she has taken on more responsibility as a leader and co-facilitator in our Girls With Leadership program where she works with our middle and high school girls encouraging them to make good choices, deal with peer pressure, develop positive friendships and most importantly helping them to believe in themselves.
Lizzy Aber has been participating, volunteering and mentoring our young girls since we started Girls With Confidence. "Lizzy is a blessing to our organization. She gives without expectation and is always willing to help because she enjoys it, not because she needs to get community service hours for school. She works incredibly hard at making sure every girl she interacts with is welcomed, loved and has fun. As you can see from her photos, she has a sweet soul and love for life. Wise beyond her years, she gets it more than most girls her age. I couldn't be happier to have her blog for us." Nancy Lemon, Founder of GWC.
Lizzy is in the 10th grade at Tampa Preparatory School in downtown Tampa where she plays varsity basketball and enjoys writing for the school newspaper. She is also the Team Manager for the Varsity Boys Baseball team. Lizzy is looking forward to inspiring girls and being a role model for them with her writing and advice.

She has worked in ministry with youth and women also.
Gloria received her Bachelor of Art degree in General Studies/Public Affairs from Indiana University, and she received her Master of Science degree in School Counseling from Capella University. Gloria is also a proud wife and mother of three boys and one (surprise) girl!
"I have always had a passion to serve and help girls and women. As the oldest girl, growing up with four younger sisters, I was always surrounded by girls. When I had the opportunity to participate the Indiana Black Expo Teen Pageant, I was exposed to self-esteem and confidence-building activities for girls and women. It was a life-changing experience for me! These experiences and others gave me a passion and desire to encourage other girls to be the best that they can!"
We are blessed to have Katherine help us with our Social Media campaigns over the next few years. She is a great role model for our girls and will do a great job in her new role.
